"Beginning in early 2007, several business owners in East Islip began asking a simple question," Why is there no organization working to promote the identity and benefits of East Islip?"

As we began to meet and set a plan in motion to address this concern, we were pleasantly surprised by a Newsday article that was headlined, "E. Islip named in list of top suburbs" (Newsday Friday, May 11, 2007).

The article cited five reasons why East Islip was the only community on Long Island named on the list. It seems we have a lot to offer, AND IT'S A WELL KEPT SECRET!

A Day For Christian

Who is Christian Koehler? Let us share with you a little about Christian Koehler and his family. Christian is a 9 year old East Islip resident who is born and raised on Long Island. He is a third grade student who attends Timber Point Elementary School in East Islip. Christian is a brilliant student, an outstanding athlete, excellent in both Lacrosse and Football, and most of all, a wonderful young boy.

Christian unfortunately is facing a significant medical challenge. A few weeks ago, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After numerous diagnostic tests and critical decisions, surgery was recommended and performed at Weill-Cornell Medical Center. Following a very successful surgery, the Koehler Family received some devastating news. The pathology reports have indicated that the tumor was an aggressive malignancy. Christian will have to endure a substantial course of medical testing and treatment in the near future to battle this illness.

The family and friends of Christian are asking for your support as we rally together as a local community to help guide the Koehler Family through this very difficult time.

We will be hosting a fundraising event on June 21st at Lily Flanagan’s Bar and Restaurant in Islip, New York to help the Koehler Family with the medical expenses they will be facing. As with any major medical situation, the medical expenses from the services and procedures associated with the illness will grow very quickly. We collectively as a community want to reach out from our hearts to help the Koehler Family.

We are asking for any contributions from the local community, families, friends and local businesses that can be used for our auction and door prizes at our event to help this young boy and his family. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
